A downloadable game for Windows and Android

This is a small demo/prototype for a sustainable grocery shopping simulation in virtual reality. You can test it out on PC or use the .apk for Quest. Controls for Quest are explained in-game. I don't consider it a game. This is a real-life educational simulation. The game starts with a black background, wait until the audio finishes. Lower the volume before playing.

There are 8 billion people in the world who do grocery shopping without knowing how much harm they cause to the planet with a simple grocery shopping trip. Our game’s purpose is to bring awareness of sustainable choices that can positively impact the environment.

Just last year, the primary grocery shopper in U.S. households made an average of 1.6 shopping trips per week. Additionally, a study published earlier this year found that 78 percent of U.S. consumers say that a sustainable lifestyle is important to them. But in a small survey we did in a class of 90 students, only 4 knew the meaning of some logos that are usually on the shelf label.

Your first task is to look at the first image that contains logos on this page. Do you know what they mean? I bet you've seen them, but do you know their importance?

I'll give you two facts:

- Purchasing USDA Organic means less soil erosion. No chemicals are used in our soil which keeps it fertile and it's healthier for you. More expensive though. We know.

- Purchasing local food leads to using less packaging and less transportation. Therefore, it means the product uses less plastic/cardboard, and one-fifth of all carbon emissions (CO2)  in the food system could be eliminated, improving our general environment/air quality.

We know it is important to educate ourselves to have a sustainable life and this is why we created Green Basket. A tool where by the guidance of the narrator you'll have a better understanding of shopping sustainably with a little comedy in item descriptions.

Warning:  This demo was made to show a very basic idea of a possible tool for sustainable shopping. In 6 weeks of class, we were able to make our very first VR game/simulation. Therefore, it still lacks the most important part of it, the narrator and it has a lot of bugs. The results are static. The main idea was to show the news that depicted how sustainable you were and how that was going to affect the world in the results scene.

PC Controllers:

  • Q for flying down
  • E for flying up
  • Toggle T for moving left-hand
  • Toggle Y for moving right-hand
  • Shift + move to activate faster and automatic movement
  • Toggle Shift to stop moving
  • G for grabbing items

PC build is harder to control. I strongly suggest using the Quest version. Other guidance and bug specifications are in-game.
